RULES & GOVERNANCE:
- Management:
- FEES:
- A weekly bowling fee of $25 is due on the night of bowling. $14 will cover the cost of bowling and the balance will go towards the prize fund, salaries, and expenses.
- Fees for the last 2 weeks of the season must be paid by the 5th week of bowling.
- All bowling fees must be paid by the 32nd week and prize monies for each half will be awarded on the 34th week.
- Bowling fees must be paid weekly. However, a seven-day grace period is allowed for emergencies only. Double fees must be paid the following week after a missed payment.
- Any bowler whose fees are in arrears by two or more weeks may be suspended from bowling at the sole discretion of the league treasurer, based on the circumstances.
- A team may not substitute for a suspended bowler. Instead, the bowler’s blind score is to be used.
- League members may pay by cash or check. Checks are to be made-out to the Playdrome.
- Team captains are responsible for the collection of team fees and must return the team envelope to the treasurer by the completion of the first game.
- Any league member not present or not paying fees for two consecutive weeks without notification to their team captain and the league treasurer may be dismissed from the league upon majority vote of the league members.
- SALARIES:
- The treasurer and the secretary shall each be paid $5 per bowler for the season. The salaries will be paid at the completion of the league business. The fee will be prorated for bowlers who do not bowl a full 34 week season, and the salaries will also be prorated accordingly.
- LEAGUE FUNDS:
- The treasurer shall deposit all league funds in the Playdrome Lanes In-House Banking at the end of each bowling night. The president may review the league account balance and transactions with the treasurer at any time upon request. The president may, at his discretion, form an audit committee to do the same.
- AVERAGES:
- All returning bowlers start the season using their final average from their previously bowled season.
- All other bowlers from other leagues use their highest established book average from the previous season or within 2 years. If no book average, a summer average of at least 21 games may be used.
- New bowlers use a composite league average from last season (128 for women and 163 for men) and establish a league average after 3 games.
- TEAM ROSTERS:
- Men and women, 18 years of age or older, may participate in the league.
- Teams will be comprised of 4 bowlers with any combination of men and women.
- Team rosters are to be in-place prior to the first week of bowling. The team roster cannot be changed in the final 5 weeks of bowling without the approval of the majority of the league members.
- LEGAL LINE-UP:
- A legal line-up shall consist of a minimum of 1 regular team member. On nights when only 1 member is present, 3 subs may bowl, except when Rule 2 is imposed.
- SUBSTITUTES:
- Subs will not be eligible for prize funds.
- A sub’s average will be computed in accordance with Rule 5.
- A man may sub for a woman and vice-versa.
- Substitutes may bowl on position nights provided they have bowled 6 games in the league this season.
- WITHDRAWALS:
- League members withdrawing from the league must give 2 weeks notice to the secretary and all money owed must be paid upon withdrawal.
- League members who are dismissed from the league involuntarily are responsible for the payment of all fees up to the week of their dismissal. Fees for the prize fund, salaries, and expenses will not be refunded.
- League members who leave the league voluntarily may be granted a refund of their prize fund contributions, depending upon the circumstances. Such refunds will be considered on a case-by-case basis and approved by a majority vote of the league.
- SCORING:
- A 100% handicap will be used.
- A 7 point system will be used: 2 points per game and 1 point for total wood.
- Absentee scores (aka, blind) shall be the bowler’s current average less 10 pins.
- Tardy bowlers may bowl provided the current game has not progressed past the completion of the 5th frame.
- If on any position night, first and last places are clinched, the first and last place teams will bowl each other.
- VACANCY:
- A vacancy is a roster position on a team that has not been filled.
- The vacancy score will be 150.
- A legal line-up of at least one regular team member must be present for a vacancy score to be in effect.
- There will be no scoring penalty for a vacant bowler, e.g., a blind score will not be applied.
- There will be no financial penalty to the team with a vacant bowler; i.e., the team will not be responsible for the loss of prize funds due to a vacant bowler. The loss will be absorbed by the league as a whole and the prize fund will be adjusted accordingly.
- PRE-BOWLING:
- Any team requesting to pre-bowl must notify the secretary in advance. The opposing team would then be notified and must consent to the request. If approved, the entire requesting team must pre-bowl. The team may pre-bowl as a team or individually.
- If any team member fails to pre-bowl prior to the scheduled match, a blind score shall be used.
- Any score-keeping corrections during pre-bowling must be witnessed and validated by a Playdrome staff member.
- The opposing team will bowl at the regularly scheduled time and will be provided with the pre-bowled scores at the start of bowling.
- If the opposing team does not consent to the pre-bowl request, the requesting team will be considered absent and their blind scores will be used for the regularly scheduled match.
- PRIZE FUND:
- Three prize fund distribution options shall be prepared by three non-league-officers and voted on by each team. In the event of a tie, the president shall cast the deciding vote.
- The prize fund distribution shall be voted on and approved by the league members by week 5.
- New bowlers who join the league after the start of a half season may opt to participate in the prize fund by paying into the prize fund for all 17 weeks of the half season; or may opt to not participate and not contribute to the prize fund for the current half season.
- The total available prize fund for each half season will vary as new bowlers join and current bowlers withdraw from the league. Consequently, the prize fund distribution will be adjusted proportionally based on the total prize fund available for each half season.
- The prize fund awarded to a team with a vacant will be adjusted such that the intended prize fund for the vacant bowler will be distributed equally among all the bowlers in the league for the current half season. For example, if the prize money for the second place team is $400 and the team has a vacant, each of the three bowlers on that team will get $100 and the remaining $100 gets equally distributed among all the eligible bowlers in the league during that half season.
- CODE OF CONDUCT:
- Bowlers are expected to adhere to standard acceptable “bowling decorum.” In short, bowlers are to be considerate, avoid profanity, vulgarity, and obscene gestures; and not be too crazy!
- Any concerns should be brought to the attention of the Sergeant-At-Arms who will address the issue as diplomatically as possible.
- MEMBERSHIP:
- New bowlers may be admitted to the league by majority vote of the current league membership. Voting privileges for new bowlers do not take effect until the next league meeting.
- Bowlers are expected to remain in good standing with the league at-large. A league member may be dismissed from the league by a 75% vote.
- COMMITTEES:
- The president shall appoint all committees.
The League Management shall consist of the five elected league officers.
